Great Dane Rescue - what is it all about?

Thank you for taking the time to see what Great Dane Rescue is all about. My name is Marie Bowyer-Jennison and many of you will recognise my name as having been a rescue coordinator with Great Dane Clubs in New South Wales (NSW) since 1999. After nearly a decade of working within breed clubs, I have decided to run an independent rescue for the breed I love so much - the Great Dane.

Marie and Melody

I guarantee you a 100% independent Rescue, reHoming and Referral service whose primary focus is the welfare and happiness of purebred Great Danes. Over the years I have accumulated a wealth of contacts and developed a successful network of helpers who will continue to assist me in finding forever homes for our beloved Great Dane.

I continue to work closely with breed club rescue coordinators so that together we can assist as many Great Danes as possible. No one person can hear about every Great Dane in need, so by combining efforts and resources Australia wide, surely we can become more successful in rescuing and reHoming Great Danes?

I am fortunate enough to have Great Dane Rescue contacts in Queensland (QLD), Victoria (VIC) and Western Australia (WA) and with assistance from organisation's such as GTE Transport (thank you Dorothy!) we have transported rescue Danes to their new forever homes in a variety of Australian states.

I am always amazed by the effort that new owners will go to, to help settle their new Great Dane into their families! Some have traveled hundreds of kilometers to pick up their Great Dane, whilst others have spent a small fortune on new toys, bedding, shelter, etc. Some have sat up night after night settling in some sad and confused Great Danes. They have all shown patience and endless love and to them I say thank you for giving these Danes a home and for making Great Dane Rescue a reality.

The other side of the coin is not as pleasant. Some owners have no choice and fall victim to unforeseen circumstances. To these people, I say thank you for contacting me instead of dumping your Great Dane. I can usually find a wonderful forever home for your Great Dane. Some things cannot be helped and life is life.

Views of the Grose Wilderness, where Marie resides.Rescuer's of all breeds comment on the cruelty, negligence, ignorance and lack of concern owners can exhibit when they want a dog rehomed. Christmas and Easter are the peak dumping seasons when dogs are dumped at shelters and pounds, rather than their owners find someone to care for their dog whilst on holidays.

Some people view dogs as an accessory, like a handbag or piece of furniture and dump their dogs when that breed is no longer fashionable. Others simply have no regard for animal life and take pleasure in causing pain and distress, perhaps to make themselves feel stronger and more important. These are the people who create a need for Animal Rescue. My focus is to get Great Danes out of these situations and into a deserving home as quickly as possible.

If you are able to help by either becoming a forever home for a Great Dane, perhaps a temporary foster home, or simply be able to transport a Great Dane from one location to another, please contact me. On the same token, if you hear of a Great Dane requiring assistance or if you cannot keep your own Great Dane, please contact me as well. I am here to help all Great Danes find their deserving forever home.
